Breeze Block Gallery is proud to present Jenny Odell, Google Satellite pioneer in the solidarity of modernity.

VIEW AVAILABLE ARTWORK

Interpreting the inhuman experience bred from modern technological advances that compose our commonplace environments, for the past two years Bay Area native Jenny Odell has been utilizing imagery taken from Google Satellite images in a commentary on the sanctification of otherwise mundane objects in our lives that are taken for granted. The show will feature twenty prints displaying Odell’s unique interpretation on the alienation of this perspective provided by the revealing landscape that she manipulates in her distinct evaluation of our surroundings.

Artist Bio:

Jenny Odell is a Bay Area captive growing up in Cupertino and born in Mountain View, which coincidentally is six miles from where Google would stake their HQ and where Odell would later feature work. Having studied English at Berkeley and design at The New School and the San Francisco Art Institute, she shortly thereafter found herself working for the man but maintaining an artist alter ego by night. Her work has been featured at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, the Google Headquarters, and Les Rencontres D’Arles in France. It’s also turned up in KQED’s Gallery Crawl, the NPR Picture Show, Pop-up Magazine, Rhizome, Gizmodo, Design Sponge, and ESPN Magazine. Abroad, her work has been featured in Die Zeit, NEON Magazine, Le Soir, and Elephant Magazine. Odell is currently living and working in San Francisco.
